Christian Education & Spiritual Formation
When you visit St. Benedict's Episcopal Church, you may immediately experience glimpses of the richness of our life together as a worshiping and praying community of faith. From the dozens of children who enter the nave at the Offertory, to the many programs and service opportunities available, to the times of great fellowship we share--our common life is one of fullness. Underlying all these aspects of the parish's life is the cultivation of a deeper awareness of the presence of God within us, around us, and within our midst. And it is the cultivation of this deeper awareness and gratitude that shapes the Spiritual Formation programs at the parish.
As "busy" as Church life can get, we are repeatedly invited back into these times of awareness and prayerfulness. We find that this awareness permeates all aspects of our life. One of our monastic orders in The Episcopal Church, the Society of St. John the Evangelist, writes in their Rule of Life:
Resisting the tendency to restrict prayer to set times, we are to aim at eucharistic living that is responsive at all times and in all places to the divine presence. (SSJE Rule, 44)
In the spirit of this eucharistic living, we continue to develop Spiritual Formation programs that meet people where they are, encourage and challenge them to grow, and provide prayerful nourishment along the journey. And we constantly give thanks to God for the presence of the Holy Spirit.
