Mission & Outreach
Someone once asked Jesus, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you read there?" He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And Jesus said to him, "You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live." (St. Luke 10:27-28)
When we think about what it means to be a Disciple of Our Lord, these words provide the basic foundations of Christian Ethics. Love God, Love your Neighbor as yourself. We are told to do very little by Our Lord, but the one thing we are told to do is Love.
The essence of Mission & Outreach, of the programs offered by St. Benedict's parish, is to share the love of God in Christ with those who are in need. Love becomes sacramental when it is experienced through the physical, tangible, expressions of giving food, of offering medical care supplies, of helping to clean brush and weeds from a neighborhood, of offering a helping hand to someone who is in need.
The Mission & Outreach programs of the parish are sacramental expressions of God's love, humbly recognizing that God works through us to reach those who need care, support, food, drink, and prayer.
