A Letter to the Choir

by Leslie Boyette

I would like to begin by saying ''Welcome' and thank you to all of those who came to the choir reception/meeting on November 14th. It was my pleasure to meet each of you and I believe we have a great group of people to start our Choir.

Please let me encourage each of you to make suggestions, share your thoughts and opinions, and remember that we are always a 'work in progress.' I remind myself very often that a Choir is made up of volunteers who choose to be there, and that they could easily be somewhere else if they wanted to. I promise you that I will challenge you musically, we will learn new things, and that we will try to have a good time doing it. I will not waste your time, and I will tell you how much I appreciate your work.

During this month's time between leaving St Andrew's and coming to St Benedict's, a hymn kept going through my head: an old Episcopal Church favorite of mine, 'God Moves In A Mysterious Way, His Wonders To Perform.' I hope you all know that hymn. A lot of people shy away from that hymn because the meter is unusual, and it is not what most people are used to singing. But those words became very real and personal to me in the past month or so, and I believe that He has led me to Saint Benedict's. I am always in complete AWE at the amazing gift that God has given me, in being able to read music and interpret what I see on the page at the organ or piano. I never asked Him for this talent, but He freely gave it to me, and He has allowed me to use my talents to bring glory and praise to Him. It is truly humbling to allow myself to be an instrument for Him.

I am looking forward to beginning choir practice in 2 weeks, and to begin working on music and hymns. I invite those of you who are interested in joining the choir to contact me, lesliedboyette@hotmail.com. There is a place for you in St. B's Choir. We are going to have an amazing time together!

Blessings to each of you,

Leslie
