Church Planting: What it means to be a founding member of a church
 Lang Celebrates Communion

If you want to grow something to last a season... plant flowers.
If you want to grow something to last a lifetime...  plant trees.
If you want to grow something to last through eternity... plant churches.

This old adage about new church planting employs a biological metaphor that is quite apt!  Church planting is an organic process where the results depend on the character of the "seeds" planted by its founding members.

Becoming involved with new church planting is of course different than being a member of an established church.  Mission churches require more involvement, care and attention than churches that have been established and are mature.  This is because it takes "intentionality" to plant and grow something than attending a church that has grown beyond its early stages of development. St. B's Friday Morning Men's Group
CoffeeOur men's group is meeting each Friday morning, with another men's group, from 7am to 8am in Buckhead, with a program consisting of a short reception over coffee, a 20-minute exploration of a specific topic relating to the bible or another spiritual issue, and 30-minute table discussions among smaller groups of attendees who share a common interest. St. Benedict's members will participate together in the table discussions. Meeting space is provided by the On the Border restaurant near Phipps Plaza, providing an ideal location for St. Benedict's parishioners living in the New Vinings area and working in metropolitan Atlanta, helping them to beat traffic and be closer to work at the end of each meeting.
The Rule of St. Benedict
"Insights Into the Art of Living"
Good Works

If you want to live
the life that only you can live,
do good for others,
and when you have done good,
you will have life abundantly.

A life without good works
is a shadow life.
A life centered on itself
is an empty life.

Seek to do good for others,
and you will find fulfillment.
Forget yourself
and you will discover what you are seeking.

But if we do good works,
we should not do so in the hope of reward,
nor in the desire for betterment,
nor can we be proud or self-righteous
on account of our good works.

We must credit the good we do
to the hidden foundation of good,
and be grateful to serve as its medium.

Each good action we perform is like a blow from a sculptor's chisel, cutting away the dross, and shaping the ideal form hidden within the stone. Each step we take away from dependence on material possessions is like a day of training for an athlete, strengthening ourselves into the fit and healthy persons we were designed to be. It is the small daily brush strokes that create the painting, no matter how large the canvas.
