| "Insights Into the Art of Living"Teaching and Learning
What is taught by example is more significant than what is taught by words.
The greatest lesson, the way to live, can never be learned by rote, but is found only by the practice of one's own authentic spirit.
Those who seek to find their genuine course need to submit to the direction of wise leaders. And as we each have duties to perform in society, acceptance of the authority of others is also necessary for the tasks of the community to be accomplished.
One who seeks to teach should strive to remember what a perilous and serious task it is to attempt to instruct others. Each learns in disparate ways, and finds distinctive paths.
For each person the goal is distinctive in its aspects. For we, as finite creatures, can perceive only what we are capable of perceiving. Therefore each person must be dealt with in accordance with his or her unique disposition and capacities.

| | "e"piscopalian? | Not too long ago a friend of mine who is a pastor at a large Baptist church (with a significant T.V. presence) asked me if the large "E" in Episcopalian meant we were evangelical, or he asked should we present ourselves as small "e" Episcopalians as non-evangelical Christians?
Getting his point, I answered that as a denomination we are not noted for our evangelism in ways that other denominations go about this important aspect of being a Christian. Yet I argued that at our roots Episcopalians are very evangelical in terms of who we see ourselves as Christians. In fact I told him that one of the reasons I was persuaded to become the Vicar of Vinings and to start a new mission church was our Bishop's appreciation that being a Christian does mean bringing people to a relationship with Christ.
Whether I convinced him that we are big "E" Episcopalians or not remains to be seen. Just for fun I do plan to invite my friend, the Evangelical pastor, to our Founders Day celebration on September 2nd (click here for details) so he can hear the Bishop talk about why the St. Benedict's mission is big "E" evangelism and important to the Diocese of Atlanta.
I hope you will come and bring others as well to hear our Bishop on this important aspect of being an "E"piscopalian. Remember you don't have to be a Founder to come and you don't even have to be a Braves fan (if such exists!). I am excited that the Bishop and several of the Canons in the Diocese will be at our Founders Day celebration event and hope you will join us for this exciting day.
Peace,
