Come Build Christ's Church

My Saint B's section provides information on how you can get involved in building Christ's church in New Vinings / Smyrna, Georgia.  Building a new church is very exciting and offers many challenges.  Whether it is stuffing envelopes or serving on a committee, you can be a very crucial part of building St. Benedicts!

There are so many ways you can get involved!

Work at the church office - From stuffing envelopes to answering phones to making copies, there is always plenty to do at our office. No matter how short or long, your time will be devoted to building St. Benedict's. Just let Betsy Shuford know that you want to be on our office volunteer team and we will call you when we need help.

Work at your home - You don't have to be here to help. You can  help us with research and communications, or you can help us find needed items at the best price-- all from your home. Whether here or there your contributions are valuable.

Be a member of (or create) a committee -  What's a church without committees? St. Benedict's has many committees that need your help. Spiritual committees, organizational committees, pastoral care committee (Lay Ministers), worship committee (Altar Guild, Vergers, Ushers) or a committee you define - all contribute to building St. Benedict's. Click here to see a list and links to various committee pages.

Host a small group -  This is a very important part of St. Benedict's start-up efforts is creating small groups that are hosted at your house or at St. Benedict's offices. These groups build fellowship and provide the core of the church a forum for discussion and direction for building St. Benedict's.

Help us acquire needed worship items - We have the most basic worship items.  However as the church seasons change, we train more acolytes and special services are offered, we realize we are still in need of many items.  Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page to find a list of items we need.  Contact Betsy , to find out how you can help.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can build a church. These are just a few of them. Please contact Betsy at 678-279-4302 or email Betsy@MySaintB.org and let us know how you would like to Build Christ's Church!

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is at the heart of Saint Benedict's mission. This ministry is concerned with nurturance and wholeness of the congregation. Care may include hospital visitation, taking Communion to the infirmed, consultation with the Vicar or the ministry of support given by and between others in the parish, given by the clergy or by trained Lay Staff at a time of crisis or life change. The Episicopal Church has a Sacrimental Rite called "Reconciliation of a Penitent". This private and confidential Rite offers a penitant (person with sin seeking forgiveness and reconciliation) a formal pastoral setting to confess and offer penance to God in the presence of a Priest. The Priest offers counsel and proclaims absolution. Such Rite often follows Pastoral counseling.

Pastoral Counseling
The Episcopal Church offers counseling at time of need or crisis(e.g. maritial, grief, anxiety, depression, spiritual, etc.) through professionally trained counselors. Most counselors are licensed in the State of Georgia as marriage and family therapists or in social work. Many are certified as members of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors ("AAPC") a professional association with standards for care and counseling. The counseling center is located in the Lanier House on the grounds of the Cathedral of Saint Phillip, 2744 Peachtree Rd., Atanta, GA. 30305. Counseling is offered on a fee basis yet many insurance policies may provide coverage. Your gift to the Vicar's Discretionary Fund is used to offer assistance to those who need financial help.
