Arts at St. Benedicts Episcopal Day School
"Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in." Amy Lowell, Poet
Academics are important, but so is creative expression and art. Subsequently, Art/Music/Movement are incorporated through the day's activities - you simply cannot work with preschoolers without singing, dancing, painting and just plain having fun.
Studies demonstrate that children who are actively engaged in arts education are likely to have higher test scores than those who do not have the opportunity to participate in creative activities and expression. Furthermore, art education can :
improve kids' overall academic performance.
develop skills needed by the 21st century workforce: critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, teamwork and more.
teach kids to be more tolerant and open.
allow kids to express themselves creatively and bolster their self-confidence.
keep students engaged in school and less likely to drop out.

By encouraging children to claim their creative voice, we strengthen their opportunity for a more understanding, hopeful, successful, inclusive, and peaceful future.
