2008 Stewardship Campaign

Our 2008 Stewardship Campaign is launching in December 2007. Please  take a look at our 2008 Stewardship Letter (PDF file) and find out how you can participate or go directly to our on-line pledge form.

 Memorial Gifts

St. B's is purchasing over $100,000 worth of items needed to worship. Thanks to so many who have generously given these items in memory of a loved one. We still need gifts totalling $85,000. Please find out how to give.

StewardshipWhat is stewardship? Often, we think of the word money whenever we hear the word stewardship (usually with an audible groan). But stewardship is more than just writing a check. Stewardship is using all the gifts that God has provided to do the work God is calling us to do. This includes financial gifts, but it can also include our time or any other resource that God has given us. Our lives and the manner in which we use our time, our talents and our treasure should reflect our belief that "All things come of Thee, oh God." Simply put, Christian stewardship is the grateful and responsible use of God's gifts in the light of God's purpose; a purpose that is revealed in Jesus Christ.

Stewardship includes time, talent, and treasure. Time is what we give to the church, volunteering those gifts and talents we can offer to God through the church. Treasures are those financial gifts we can give to God through tithing and the offering.

The Rev'd and Dr. John Westerhoff has written a series of "word studies" on tithing and the offering. Please take a few minutes and read these important words on stewardship. Dr. Westerhoff is a member of St. Benedict's Advisory Council.

Stewardship Starts with Children

Luke 18 tells us the story of a man who asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells the man to sell all he owns and distribute the proceeds to the poor "...and you will have treasure in heaven." When the man heard this, he becane very sad. However, we often see children who freely, and even eagerly, share the contents of their pockets or piggy banks to help someone.

A child's generosity resides in their heart from birth and it is an adult's responsibility to see that this gift is not only celebrated, but empowered and nurtured.
