Stewardship at St. Benedict's
|
What is stewardship? Often, we think of the word money whenever we hear the word stewardship (usually with an audible groan). But stewardship is more than just writing a check. Stewardship is using all the gifts that God has provided to do the work God is calling us to do. This includes financial gifts, but it can also include our time or any other resource that God has given us. Our lives and the manner in which we use our time, our talents and our treasure should reflect our belief that "All things come of Thee, oh God." Simply put, Christian stewardship is the grateful and responsible use of God's gifts in the light of God's purpose; a purpose that is revealed in Jesus Christ.
Stewardship includes time, talent, and treasure. Time is what we give to the church, volunteering those gifts and talents we can offer to God through the church. Treasures are those financial gifts we can give to God through tithing and the offering.
The Rev'd and Dr. John Westerhoff has written a series of "word studies" on tithing and the offering. Please take a few minutes and read these important words on stewardship. Dr. Westerhoff is a member of St. Benedict's Advisory Council.
